Hanau Army Airfield (Fliegerhorst), Hanau, early 1970s (66th Avn Co, Air Traffic Control web page) Drag races were held at Hanau Army Airfield each Sunday. The jeep in the middle of the photo was in contact with the tower and the race officials would be notified when a plane was landing. They would then move the Christmas Tree (starting lights) off the runway and set it all up again once the aircraft had landed.
