I have a request from an individual who is looking for some pictures of American Troops entering his town of SCHÄRDING, Austria during May of 1945. He is partially interested in attaining some photos of pondtoon bridges over the Inn River at Schärding. The Engineer Battalion (259th or 260th)may have been the units that installed the bridges. Any pictures can be email to me at my email addres. All help would be welcome by the Austrian, and me. Thanks. Wes Montgomery

My email has changed to above from hotmail. The Iraq war infuriated me. Anybody who had knowledge of WMDs knew they couldn't have nuclear weapons, unless they bought them. And they had no way to deliver them. As a private I was sent to a school in Salzburg on the subject (CBR warfare). Plus I had one brother who developed the antidotes to nerve gas at the Army Chemical Center after WWII, another who had a PhD in nuclear physics, and I was a physics major in college. There was no way they could have built and run a secret enrichment site with us flying over that nation whenever we wanted for ten plus years. Regards USFA somehow I ended up with an interim top secret clearance as a private and a clerk typist in the motor pool in the 350th Infantry when the treaty moved us out. It was fun.

My Father, Robert Thomas was a Staff Sergeant, stationed @ St. Johann, Austria. I know that he worked in Supply, but I do not know exactly what unit he was attached to. I believe that he left Austria in 1953, possibly 1954. I would like to correspond with anyone that may give me any information about him, his unit, etc.

I HAVE FOUND AN OLD POETRY-ALBUM!!! I hope someone can help me with the following: In the year of about 1995 I found a poetry-album in a train in Vienna. It is a very old one and I want to give it back to the owner or a family member. It is a poetry-album from a woman called: Elfie. The first text is dated on the 23th of December 1946! Some other things which are important are: * Someone signed with the following: (I'm not sure of the name): Inge Lify (?) USFA SIG. GEN. TELETYPE SEC. VIENNA 2ND YEAR OF OCCUPATION 17th December 1946 * At the last page, someone signed with: M.R. Smith 3004, Louisiana Ave. St. Louis Missouri U.S.A. Because the USFA was mentioned in the poetry-album, so I search on the internet and came on this homepage. I hope that someone can help me with my search. I have already send a letter to Missouri, but my letter came back. Thanks for all the help, because I cannot throw this old poetry-album away!

I was stationed at camp Truscott, Salzburg Austria, with the 258th signal construction co. From 1953 to 1954. I was a Pole lineman. I have many great memories of Austria. My name is R.E. Dudley. I had a dental appointment one day. The Dentist called my name. He looked puzzled, I said here. I got in the Dentist chair and he told me that his name was R. E. Dudley. Only his was Robert E. Dudley. He suggested that I sign my name as Richard E. Dudley. I have ever since. He was the only dentist there that did not hurt me. Great Dentist.

I went to Austria on July 5, 1952 out of Leghorn and was assigned to 7620 HQ CO. We were first based at Camp Reidenburg and later moved to Camp Roeder. My wife and I went back in 1992 and it had CHANGED! I took her to see some of the old sites which were great if you could remember. We went up the elevator to the "Winkler" sat out and had a drink. 7620 had the championship basketball team, one of the team was Meadowlark Lemon. Lots of great guys were there in Austria.

I Believe I was cut off during my last entry. My duties in Camp Roeder was again as a cook, twenty four hours on and fourty eight hours off, "can't beat that with a stick" most of my off time was spent in Salzburg, at the Casanova nightclub, Liliput-Bar, the Casino or the Mirabell Servece Club. On two seperate occasions I was on a medical convalescence leave in Garmisch, Germany, for a total of forty five days, I returned to the states in Jan, 1953 aboard the same ship, the General R.E. Callen, and was discharged on Feb. 3, 1953, back home to Woodhaven, Queens, New York, that very same day. My time in Austria, has always been in my memory over these passed years and will remain with me as a the most happest and joyful time of my life.

We, Companies, H&S, A, B, and C, were station in tent city for several months were I served as a cook, then we went to Camp Roeder near Salzburg Austria, were we helped in the construction of Camp Roeder by laying down the road bedding and at times we did some road work for the local authorities. While there I still served as a cook and at times I drove and did some welding at the motor pool. I belive it was sometime in March of 1952 we returned to Camp Saalfelden and were we put up in the billets. In April of 1952 I was reassigned to the 350th. Infantry Regiment, Compamty A, so it was back to Camp Roeder again. my duties there were to serve as cook. Twenty four hours on and forty eight hours off, "can't be |
