I found this site in effort to see pictures and find names of soldiers that have served im Deutschland. My father, SGT David Ferris (US ARMY) worked in Stuttgart and in Pirmasens and my mother and I were lucky enough to have such a great provider. He really made a great life for us in Germany and to this day I long to return. What a magnificent place to grow up in, I have many MANY unbelievable memories and I must thank all of you who have inspired me to serve my country and those who are serving now and who have in the past. -Petty Officer Amy Ferris

Served with 27th Engineers, Spinelli Barracks, Germany from Jan 1965 to June, 1966 in an engineer property disposal unit. Faciltated the supply of searchlights for M-60 tanks; various generators to field units and other misc.
engineer TOE equipment. COSTAR realigned our mission and we became
part of 1s Support Brigade. Unit members dissolved into other supply units.
Capt Geisewhite was our company commander and CWO Lemme lead the
Engineer Supply Depot operations. My MOS was property displosal specialist. Great group of soldiers before advent of COSTAR!

Good times and bad, really enjoyed marking my last day..on the "freedom bird" calender, we all had in our lockers. After all those years, good feeling closing my locker..for the last time! Good friends with a last "party" enroute to "Rhiem Main" for the trip home...memory lane!!

I was stationed at Wharton Barracks in Heilbronn, Germany, late 1966 to early 1969. I was assigned to the 237th Engineer Battalion. I was a platoon leader and eventually commander of Hq Company, 237th Engineer Bn.
I really enjoyed the people, the food and the beer during the small amount of free time I had. I went back one time around 2007 and was disappointed in that the entire post had been torn down save about three buildings and the chapel.
For those who do not know, there is a Wharton Barracks page on Facebook and the participation is great and informative.

So glad to find this site. Brings back lots of memories of my time in Frankfurt in the late 1970s. I have perhaps a complete set of issues of the Frankfurt Chronicle military community newspaper from 1976 and perhaps 77. If there is interest perhaps I could scan some of the issues, as it doesn't seem you have Frankfurt Chronicles from that time period.

It continues to amaze me, and therefore a big compliment goes to webmaster Walter Elkins, that his site stands alone on the internet having the most accurate and extensive information available about the role played by the Air Force's 412L program in Germany "back in the day." Kudos Mr. Webmaster for posting and preserving the available information about a program that represented America's best efforts to track Soviet Union aircraft and defending the three air corridors connecting Berlin to West Germany during the Cold War. Thank you Walter...well done!!

In April a select few of us from the 26th were sent into Berlin to Augment the 47th. If anyone has information about where the 47th landed in Germany and where all they trained before they convoyed into Berlin and if anyone from the 47th remembers we Spaders serving with you I would appreciate any answers. Also If there is anyone out there who Knows exactly who and how we were chosen to go on TDY to augment the 47th please let me know. Thanks, Gene

Hi Everyone, I was stationed in Grafenwohr from 69-70, with Co.B, 793rd MP Battalion. It was a great time and made so many friends on post and downtown. Hopefully they will see this and get in touch with me. Would love it if anyone had photos of the town from back then and would like to share. Remember the LIDO BAR, the MPs hangout, the owner ole Kaufer(sp) would lend money to us at the end of the month when we would run out of money, we all did, and be waiting behind the counter with the IOUs on payday. If anyone also had any photos/info on the post from back then, the training area camps Kasserine Normandy Aachen & Algiers, main post, the theater, german canteen, the gates as they looked back then. Hey Willie Randolh., Bill Peek. Don Hulet, Bob Diebert, Danny Norris, remember partying in Bayreuth, GOOD TIMES!! Hey Rich Bettica, remember us jumping into your VW and booking off post and partying all day, after a friend gave us heads up that an alert was going to be called! I know I'll leave off names, but hope you'll forgive and get in touch! My roomies Don Gawel,W.D. Sims,Ken Hillis. Others I'd love hear from Forgarty, Willie Sloan,Bob Walls, Thompson, Duke and more. Remember filling the oil cans up to fill the room heaters in winter, we'd fill 2, borrow one from another room, we'd pour their can in and take it back to them. That way our's was full so we didn't have to go out in the cold in the middle of the night! I'd also like anyone from Hohenfels, to write me, I was transferred there(drove there with John Copa) from 70-71! ! Alot of GOOD TIMES AND FRIENDS there also, you're all in my mind and heart. also anyone from other Hohenfels units, Remember some friends in I think 663 rm had 'the brain' Street glass cover upside down with xmas lights inside.Remember crazy day we met!! Hdqs, 663, 6-60, (remember those intense games of SPADES) with the guys over at the Dispensary (Dana Lawrence and others in big bay room) sorry names now escape me but some of you remember must that wild concert in Heidelberg. GOOD TIMES . Fond memories of everyone in town at BETTINA'S Swartze Katz(sp), Berglengenfeld at the ICE CAFE, Chris Rivera and the guys hanging at the Hohenfels 3K sign! Have contacted a few, but others Richie Sells, Ed Moylan, My Roomy Scott Olsen (remember when I took you out when just new to unit) My squad sgt for a while E5 Carter- remember backing my story to beat art 15?
Let me sign off now, you've got my email (kraftykruzer@aol.com) please write back, I would really love to hear from you. So many memories so let's talk & share stories of our times!! So for now I'll sign off using the Hohenfels , COUNTER CARVER out!

It's a shame that it's gone and in such a state of disrepair. Some people hated The Rock but a lot of us loved our time there. Felt good to know that even during the Cold War, we were making a difference.
