IT SEEMS I DID A LOT OF STUFF FROM REDEYE GUNNER, GATE GUARD, RATIONS RUNNER TO PLL CLERK. AS WITH MOST OTHER GUYS I ALSO SPENT A LOT OF TIME AT THE WALL. I'M GLAD THERE IS A PLACE WE CAN POST WHAT WE DID AND HOPE WE FIND OLD FRIENDS. I GUESS WHAT GOT ME WONDERING ABOUT EVERYONE IS ALL THE OLD SPP'S YOU SEE IN TOWNS AROUND THE COUNTRY.

The best days of my life were spent in USAEUR. On "The Rock" between 1972 & 1975, as a tank commander Co. B, 2nd Bn, 33rd Armor, 3rd AD Back in 1978, Vilseck, CATC as NCOIC of the M60A3 Transition Training Department. Once more in 1984, as First Sergeant, HHC, 1st Brigade, 1st AD. Served some of the finest soldiers I have ever known. I miss the sailing at Lake Chiemsee and the AFRC's at Bertchesgaden and Garmisch. I miss my old German friends at the "Schuetzenhiem." It was good a time, and I am glad to have had the chance to serve.

Just returned from a trip to Aschaffenburg after 34 years. Did find all of the old kasernes and mostly Fiori Barracks where I served with B, Company 1st Bn 4th Inf Regt, 3d ID. I must say alot has changed over time and glad to see the Germans put the kasernes to good use except Ready Barracks.
Still looking to touch base with other old warrior's from the 1976-77 time frame with B.1/4th Inf to catch up on old times.

Was stationed at Tompkins Barracks 1966-67. Special orders clerk for 11th Eng Grp. Worked for Sgt Adams, Sgt Mitchell, Mr Buchannon and with Gillespie, Doyle, Aune, and several others. Arrived there from Ft. Belvoir, VA with Spearman, Tafoya and others. Picked up Malino on our off-post alert route. Because of his hospitality (cup of coffee, etc) we were often the last ones to arrive at the barracks but were never left behind. Fond, fond memories.

Very good web site for information and just reading comments. I was in Co B, 102nd Signal Bn then in Nov 67 it bcame 68th Sig Bn. Co HQ's was at McGraw Kaserne, Munich, with duty at Munich Microwave Radio Station from early 1967 - Mar./Apr. 1968. Upon promotion to SP5, I was transferred to Co C, 68th Sig Bn ( I beleive it was Co B, 360th Sig Bn) at Nelson Barrack in Neu Ulm. I was in supply wating for clearnaces till July/Aug. 68 then went to Pfullendorf SSB Radio Station to be NCOIC after SSG McGowan left. The Station supported 2D USA MSL DET which was a Warhead Custodial Unit supporting 10th Art Rgt's, 101 Art Bn (8" SP Howlizers) and 102nd MSL (HJ) Bn of German 10th Panzer Granadiar (Armourd) Division. Rotated back Jan. 20, 1970. I had a great 3 years in Germany. Went to 3 Oktoberfests, Rome, London, Paris, Brussels, all over Switzerland, Austria, and learned Skiing in Garmish from Willy who metaled in 1936 German Winter Olympics. While in Munich, toke a Projector Class, the instructor was one of many Offical Photargaphers of Hitler. Showed alot of Pics and told some stories of Hitler.

Military.com has many Units listed with web sits that you can look for and join your old unit.

I was assigned to USAG Karlsruhe (Smiley barracks) from Dec '63 to May '66. I was a QM Supply Specialist (76E) Commissary Warehouseman. When I arrived at Smiley I first filled in as the Garrison Postal Clerk, then did Passport & IDs, and UP duty before I finally wound up actually working at the Commissary-but that's the Army for ya. Anyway, during my time as postal clerk I met some Air Force guys from 4th ATAF who told me how great the AF was. After rotating back to CONUS and being Honorably discharged I turned around and joined the Air Force. I have never regreted that decision. I retired from the AF as of Jan 1, 1985. I currently work for the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA-Chicago) in IN. I offer my respect and thanks to all my brothers in arms, past & present.

Back in 1954 while serving with Hq 1st Recon Co 1st Inf division We acted as Enemy forces during Fx's. We spent about eight months of the year doing this. We had several of our personnel capable of conversing in eight different languages. Utilizing this capability we would send in one of them to the enemy's camp in civies to volenteer for odd jobs.In doing so he was capable of obtaining the passwords, locations of guard posts and area layout. Come nightfall we would sneak into the camp and attack them.

Frequent visitor to your site and have submitted story about duty with 7796th Signal Photo Company 1950/52. Left Germany in November 52 and last contact with Corporal William (Bill) Tynan was at Bremerhaven Port when both of us were heading home for discharge. Bill was a Californian and after his discharge worked for a while in Disney Studios. Bill would be in the 79/81 age range. Any information about him would be appreciated as other members of the 7796th are also looking for him with the possibily of a reunion.

God Bless you all for your service! I was just researching some family history... my family was from Poland - liberated by the US from a german forced labor camp and transported from Bremerhaven Germany and arrived June 15th, 1951 in New Orleans! My mother always said it was the General Muller or Miller... I am just trying to see what I can find. Also, other family came earlier to New York via the General Haan in 1949 I thank God for their safe transport.

Wonderful site, and a great service for us old timers especially.I often wonder about all my Army buddies and many German citizens that spent time with while in Germany. I was in the 93rd Sig.Btn. HQ+HQ Co. in Hanau from '62-'64.Had many wonderful times and experiences there.Hutier Kaserne was the work site while on duty, but at the end of the day,on went the civies and out on the strasse to be with my Rads. Many travels on the trains, near and far, and especially to A-DAM! and those wonderful GIRLS! I'd enjoy hearing from any of you who can share
memories of places and people around Hanau. Back in that time period,
1962-1964.Most of the names have faded from memory, but some conversations over a few mugs of good German brew will help!
Thanks, and hope someone come across this post that CAN remember.

My father, Ralph Arthur Clark, aka "RC," served in Germany in 1955-1956. I am looking for veterans who knew my father. I requested his records from DoD and received the response that they were all burned in the big fire in St. Louis records center. My recollection is that he went to Ft. Knox for BT (Misery and Agony). I recall him talking about being stationed in England and Germany.

I have a few documents. One is for "Clerk Typist MOS 4405" training at Ft. Knox, 25 March 1955, and the other is "Military Justice School Course B" at Ayers Caserne, Kirch Gons, Germany, 22D Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, with no date anywhere on the certificate.

I have pictures of him from "Wildflicken" and "Kirch Gons." The picture from Kirch Gons is in the Enlisted Men's Club. His buddies names listed on the back of the photo are: Dean, Milt, Francis, Jim and Willy. Unfortunately there are no last names for any of the guys.

Please help me. I need to find someone who knew him or at least served in the same unit and recognizes the name. We have almost no records and can't get any from the DoD. Thank you, and thank you for serving.

Arthur Clark

I have been looking for any information about my father's unit, the Army Security Agency Europe. He was Army Captain Orman Lee Hicks. He was killed in 1947 in Germany. My mother told me she'd received letters from men he was stationed with that he had been killed by sniper fire. I am still trying to get him a Purple Heart. His records were destroyed in the St. Louis Fire. A state legislator looked into this for me and found one article stating it had been an accidental gunshot wound, and "they don't give Purple Hearts for accidents".

He used to through a church program stay with my mom's family in Hanau over Christmas time. I have tried to find out about him through other searches in the internet but hoped maybe this would work.
