An H-19D CHICKSAW of a Signal Corps unit next to an H-34 CHOCTAW. (Both were manufactured by the Sikorsky Aircraft Division, United Aircraft Corp.) The H-19 was the Army's first true transport helicopter and played an important role in the Army's initial formulation of airmobility doctrine. In 1962, the H-19D's were redesignated as UH-19D's.
