In organizational day ceremonies held on the parade field at Flak Kaserne, Ludwigsburg, recently Lt Gen George H. Decker, CG. VII Corps, cited the officers and men of the 52nd Medical Battalion for their outstanding and unusually high score attained during an Army Field Forces test.

Before congratulating the officers and men, Decker presented Maj John J. Walsh, Jr., Bn CO. with the new colors for the 52d, marking the redesignation of the unit from the 211th Medical Battalion.

Although general orders issued earlier this year officially effected the switch, this ceremony was the first public announcement concerning the change.

I spent some time on your wesite and I wish to congratulate you on a wonderful piece of work. Thank you for your efforts.

I was in Germany 1965-1966 and I was looking for my old units but did not find them. I started in the 52nd Medical Battalion stationed in Murphy Barracks in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

That unit was deactivated and I was reassigned to HHD 7th Medical Brigade stationed at Coffey Barracks in Ludwigsburg.

Can you give me any guidance as to where I might look for info on the units?

I served with the 732nd Med Detachment, 7th Army, at Panzer Kaserne, Böblingen, Germany from 1967-1969. The detachment was part of the 52nd Med Bn.

The commander at that time was Lt Gen. David Parker. The General had the nickname by some as "Ready-Teddy" because he would often have command alerts in the middle of the night. However, I found him to be a very open and very friendly General officer.

The Gen. had eye problems and I would often accompany, Dr. Perez-Soto or Dr. Groves to meet with him in his office. Drs. Perez-Soto and Groves were two of the best med officers I ever worked for. Also, Robert J. Herrala was an assistant and good friend of mine along with the the command pharmacist, Gilbert Sanchez. What good people!!! I wish I could meet with them again!

On Panzer Kaserne where my med. det. was located, there was alos the 125th Trans Battalion. I believe at the time I was there, the C.O. was Capt. Larry Ivers. (Webmaster note: Maybe Capt Ivers was CO of HHC, 125th Trans Bn?) The 125th was under 10th Trans Group which was commanded by Col. Alexander Becker. I knew a lot of people there. I recall Capt. Ivers quite clearly because he was interviewed one time by the "OVERSEAS WEEKLY" (who some EM refer to it as the "oversexed" weekly) and, well, in not so kind fashion, told the newspaper where he felt the "free press" belonged when it comes to military operations.

The 126th Trans Co. was also located at Patch Barracks. The CO, Lt Raymond Stearns, also went on to make a career of the military.
