On 16 October 1985, the 205th MI Group was redesignated the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade.

Deactivated following its return from Vietnam, the 1st Military Intelligence Battalion began a phased reactivation in 1983 in an attached status to VII U.S. Corps. Its separate companies moved from VII to V Corps between 1983 and 1986. The 1st Military Intelligence Battalion became V Corps’ Aerial Exploitation Battalion on 16 June 1986. On 15 January 1991, elements of the 1st Military Intelligence Battalion deployed to Southwest Asia as part of the multinational force conducting Operation Desert Shield/Storm, returning on 10 April 1991. The unit was one of the first units to deploy in support of Operation Joint Endeavor in December 1995

Activated 16 January 1984 in Germany.



165th MI Bn
On Jun 1 1962, the 165th MI Co was activated in Germany.
On Jul 1 1972, the unit was reorg and redes as HHC, 165th MI Bn.
On Jul 1 1983, the unit was inactivated in Germany.

Activated in 1 June 1962 as 165th MI Service Co. Reorg and redes 1 July 1972 as HHC, 165th MI Bn. Inact 1 July 1983 in Germany. Redes 16 April 1984 as HHSC, 165th MI Bn and act in Germany (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated).

The 165th Military Intelligence Battalion was originally activated as the 165th Military Intelligence Detachment in Japan on 18 October 1951.The unit deployed to Germany in 1962 and has been providing continuous intelligence support to units in the State of Hessen since then. In July 1972, it was redesignated as the 165th Military Intelligence Battalions part of the 66th MI Group. The Battalion was reorganized into its current configuration as a Tactical Exploitation Battalion on 16 April 1984. E Company, 51st Infantry was activated and attached to the 165th Military Intelligence Battalion a V Corps’ Long Range Surveillance Company on 16 September 1986 and permanently assigned to the 165th Military Intelligence Battalion in October 1988. Most recently, the 165th Military Intelligence Battalion deployed to Bosnia in support of Operation Joint Endeavor from December 1995 to November 1996. The Battalion was presented with the Army Superior Unit Award and the National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation as a result of the support it provided to deployed forces during this period

302nd MI Bn
Effective 21 Dec 1975, HHC, 302d ASA Bn (Corps) was react at FRANKFURT and assigned to the 502d ASA Gp in support of V Corps.
On 1 Jan 1977, the Bn was transferred from HQ, USASA to HQ, USAREUR and further assigned to V Corps.
Effective 16 April 1984, the 302d ASA Bn was reorg as the 302d MI Bn (OPNS)(Corps) and subord to the 205th MI Gp of V Corps under the Combat Electronics Warfare Intelligence (CEWI) Concept.
On 21 Oct 1985, the 302d MI Bn was resubordinated from the 205th MI Gp to the 205th MI Bde.

Effective 16 April 1984, the 302d ASA Bn was reorg as the 302d MI Bn (OPNS)(Corps) and subord to the 205th MI Gp of V Corps under the Combat Electronics Warfare Intelligence (CEWI) Concept. On 21 Oct 1985, the 302d MI Bn was resubordinated from the 205th MI Gp to the 205th MI Bde (which means that effective that date, the 205th was reorg and redes as a brigade).

The 302d was assigned to the Badernof Kaserne, Heilbronn, Germany. The unit then transferred to Warner Kaserne, Bamberg, Germany, effective 15 March 1955, and on to Herzog Base, Herzogenaurach, Germany during September 1956. Effective 15 October 1957, the 302d was inactivated in Germany. It was reactivate 21 December 1975, at Frankfurt, Germany, and assigned to the 502d Army Security Agency in support of V Corps. On 1 January 1977, the Battalion was transferred from HQ, Army Security Agency to HQ, US Army, Europe and further assigned to V Corps. Effective 16 April 1984, the 302d ASA Bn was reorganized as the 302d MI Battalion (OPNS) (Corps) and subordinated to the 205th MI Group of V Corps under the Combat Electronics Warfare Intelligence (CEWI) Concept. On 15 October 1985, the 302d MI Battalion was resubordinated from the 205th MI Group to the 205th MI Brigade. On 22 Dec 1994, the 302d MI Battalion transferred to Wiesbaden Air Base, Wiesbaden, Germany, and continues its proud service today.
