On May 3 1945, the 29th Infantry Division, in occupation along the ELBE River, passed from XIII to XVI Corps.

On May 4, the Div was relieved by the 84th Inf Div and moved to an assembly area in the MÜNSTER area to prepare to take over the occupation of the ports of BREMEN and BREMERHAVEN.

Task Force Bremen, as the 29th Inf Div (reinforced) was now designated, commenced movement to the Bremen Enclave on May 7, when the 115th Inf Regt relieved the 378th Inf Regt, 95th Inf Div in the BREMEN area. The movement of the Div was completed on May 21.

The 29th assumed full responsibility for the Bremen Enclave at midnight on May 24-25 and passed from XVI Corps to Ninth Army.

On June 15, the Div passed to Seventh Army.

In the early phases of the Occupation, the Div was designated Category I. After VJ-Day, however, it was redes Cat IV.

(Readjustment: On June 26, high-point vets were transferred to the 69th Inf Div. In turn, many low-point personnel from that division joined the 29th. In July and Aug, similar transfers were repeated with the 69th Inf Div)

Late in Nov 1945, the 311th Inf Regt, 78th Inf Div, arr in the Enclave to relieve the 29th Inf Div. The relief was officially effected on Dec 1 1945.

The 29th Inf Div passed from Seventh Army to TSFET. All attachments were transferred to the Bremen Port Command.

Movement to the staging area at BREMERHAVEN began Dec 18. The first unit (116th Inf Regt) sailed on Dec 24. The last units left on Jan 3 1946.
