(1) The 40th
Signal Construction Battalion departed for Germany 17 January
1952. While in Germany (located at Rhein Kaserne - later known as
Gerszewski - in Knielingen. It was reorganized and redesignated as
the 40th Signal Battalion (Const) on 1 October 1953. The battalion
remained in Germany for two more years until it redeployed to New
York on 17 April 1956.
In March 1956, the 25th Signal Battalion (Construction) was
transferred, as part of Operation GYROSCOPE, to Germany where it was
assigned to the 7th Army, replacing the 40th Sig Bn (Const). The Bn
took over the mission and home station (Gerszewski Bks, Karlsruhe)
of the departing battalion.
HHD, A and B Companies were located at Karlsruhe; C Co was at Kaiserslautern.
In 1966, elements of the battalion were inactivated, with the exception
of Charlie Company which was attached to the 440th Signal Battalion.
On 1 October 1968, Charlie Company was reorganized and redesignated
as the 541st Cable Construction Company. |
