53rd Signal Battalion DUI

1961
The 53rd Signal Battalion was stationed in Kitzingen during the 1961-1963 time frame.

In 1961, the battalion was assigned to Fourth Army and stationed at Fort Hood, TX. It was deployed in late 1961 or early 1962 to Germany as part of the build up of US Forces in Germany during the Berlin Crisis.

The battalion was attached to the 505th Signal Group.

The mission of the Battalion was to provide Army level communications for the Seventh Army through employment of the new communications concept.

It was designed to provide highly mobile, flexible and dispersed communications for the conventional or nuclear battlefield.

Webmaster note: Can anyone provide information on when the 53rd arrived in Germany and when it left? (I believe the Bn returned to the States in late 1962 or early 1963)
