(Source: Email from William (Bill) A. Good) |
I was in Vienna from Jan. 1946 until Nov.
I served with the 505, 524, and 796 Military Police in Vienna. I have two large photos of the Motorcycle Squad, B Company at Mariahilfer. I have many 2"X3" pictures taken with a small kodak brownie in Vienna and some at Tulln Air Base.
I have some history of my tour of duty in Vienna and would like to share it. |

67th Military Police Company
The 67th MP Company was activated on September 15, 1948 at Camp McCauley, Hörsching, Austria and posted at Wels Air Base. The company was initially attached to the 25th Transportation Traffic Regulation Battalion.
The 67th and 68th MP Companies (activated in Salzburg around the same time) were created under a force reduction plan that involved the concurrent inactivation of the 524th MP Battalion in Linz. For all practical purposes the battalion was converted into two smaller sized units. USFA Command delegated each of the two MP companies a portion of the mission previously conducted by the 524th Battalion.
For the 67th MP Co that meant it assumed a dual-mission:
1. to train guards needed to secure rail movements (supply trains and the "Mozart" passenger train) along the line of communication from the ports of Leghorn (Livorno) and Trieste into Austria;
2. to provide VIP guards for dignitaries visiting the area.
To accomplished this mission, the company was subdivided into a headquarters section and two operational platoons, each subdivided into four squads per platoon. By March 1950, individual squads were posted at Linz, Vienna, Leghorn, Trieste and Munich to provide coverage throughout the unit's area of responsibility.
On March 25, 1952 the 67th MP Company was reorganized, increased in size, and assigned a new dual-mission of providing law enforcement and highway patrol durties at Camp McCauley in Linz and Camp Roeder in Salzburg. The company was placed under the operational control of the commanding general, Linz Military Post. The new duties included post and highway patrol and armored car projects. In addition, the company was required to assign troopers to the Enns checkpoint, to the vice squad and to game warden duties.
As a result of the pending implementation of the State Trraty in Austria, the 67th was scheduled for elimination. The company was officially inactivated on July 31, 1955 at Camp McCauley. |
