Gendamerie Kaserne, Schönau (Mannheim), 1988
(Albrecht Brugger, photographer, www.leo-bw.de)

Aerial view shows two US Army installations in the Mannheim area that are not frequently seen in period photos: in the upper left hand corner is the Bluemenau Class III Supply Point (a.k.a. Tank Farm); on the right lower half of the photo is the elusive Gendarmerie Kaserne, home to several Labor Service units during the Cold War period. This installation was torn down soon after being returned in November 1991 to the German government to make room for residential development.
