So glad to have found this site. I am trying to find long-lost relatives. My uncle, Eugene V. Snow ( a Creek Indian) was stationed with the 124th Station Hospital, as a driver, as the story goes. He was killed on duty sometime in 1946-1947. He was married(?)to a local national and even had a son. I have in my posession the flag used to drape his coffin and a photo album filled with pictures of the woman (who we have always believed to be his wife) and an infant son. I would like nothing better than to return the flag and photos to this cousin. He must be 58 years old and I would hope, by some miracle that the woman would still be alive. If anyone has any information whatsoever, I would really appreciate it. This has been one of the goals of my life to re-unite with these lost relatives. I have applied to receive his records from Military Personnel Records in St Louis. What I would really like to do is find the local paper for Linz and place an ad. I think time must be of the esence now that so much time has gone by. What alway

In October we're going to Vienna for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. In 1954 we drive up from Cp. Darby and stayed at the Cottage Hotel. I believe that it was a USFA billet as a friend who was permanently assigned to Vienna was living there. But I can not find any reference to the Cottage Hotel in present day Vienna. Does anyone know what happened to it? Also we were married in the Innerestadt Standesampt. I recollect that it was on Mariehilferstrasse. Near the Stifts Kaserene, I think. But I see that the Innerestadt Standesampt is now located somewhere else. Does anyone know exactly where the old Standesampt was. We had to go over to the Oberlandesgericht also. It had the neatest elevator. You had to wait for this platform to come by, then jump on. I suppose the present Oberlandesgericht has a normal elevator - shame!!

I came to the 516 Signal Co. (Radio Relay Section Camp McCauley) as a Corporal in August 1951. Spent a lot of time at the Zistelalm on Gaisberg manning the Salzberg end of the radio link. After attending the NCO Academy I made SGT. Departed from Camp Roeder in Feb. 1953. Had a great time there with some really terrific people. I'd sure like to hear from some who were in the Radio Relay Section. Made one visit to Salzberg and Zistelalm in early 70's. My how things have changed.

I have visited this website many times and have always found it extremely interesting and informative. We have just started a photobased oral history project about the USFA in Salzburg and would like to bring our new Website “USFA in Salzburg 1945-1955” to your attention. I am sure it will be of interest to you and I hope that the photos will bring back memories. The photographs belong to our private archive and were taken by Dragomir Milosevic, an officer in the Yugoslav Army and a prisoner of War during World War II in Germany, who as a displaced person and Yugoslavian exile worked as a photographer with the US Armed Forces in Salzburg (mainly with the 5th, 16th and 350th Infantry Regiment). We would be pleased if you visited our website and would welcome any comments that you wish to make. The webaddress is: http://www.8ung.at/usfamemories Sincerely yours, Milenia Snowdon-Prötsch

I was with D Company 350th Infantry from 1951-1954. We arrived in Saalfelden and in 1951 and in early 1952 when our billets at Camp Roeder were completed we moved to Salzburg. I did get back to Saalfelden the following winter for "Mountain Training" which was an eight week ski school. (Tough Life. . . eat your hearts out!) Great duty, great memories, and wonderful experiences. Too bad we didn't think that way then.

Great Web site! My family lived in Salzburg for four years (1952-56), as Yugoslavian refugees. For awhile we lived in Lager Parsch, one of the many refugee camps in Austria. Because of that, we also had the "privilege" of living around US military families. This gave us first-hand experience with the graciousness and generosity of Americans. When it was our turn to leave the camp, we were overjoyed to learn of our sponsorship to the USA. I have been here almost 50 years, now--what a blessing. Thanks to all the USFA vets and their families for that wonderful introduction to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Special thanks to the Hawkridge and Patterson families. Thanks also for this great Web site to make sure the stories are never lost or forgotten.

I helped open the Salzburg Enlisted Men's PX in 1945. Later that year I helped open the Officer's PX also in Salzburg. I was the enlisted man in charge of that PX until I left for the US in the Spring of 1946. Lt. Fichthorn was the officer in charge of the officer's PX. The personnel working in the PX lived in an apartment house on the other side of the tunnel from the old town.
