I am the daughter of Capt. Joe Leon Michaelsen, who, according to his cemetary records in Hawaii served in the USFA-Austria. If anyone remembers him please send an E-mail. He and my mother were divorced in 1948, and mother distroyed almost all records referring to my father. I do have his birth certificate, an envelope showing he was the Chief of civilian personnel in Tokyo, Japan in 1957, but little else. I have requested his military records from the National Archives.

I would like to see more pictures of Camp McCauley, and also of Linz. If any of you USAF Veterans has some snap shots of those areas, please send them to Walter Elkins, so that he could add them to the Photo Gallery. Thanks.

I was an SP3 in Headquarters Battery of the 510th Field Artillery at Camp Roeder for six months and then moved with our battalion to Baumholder. I am interested in joining USFA and getting in touch with some more of my 510th buddies. We have located a group of about 25 ex-Five and Dimers. Ed Drahozal

Congratulations on a fascinating web site! I came upon it in a search for the 430th CIC Detachment in Vienna where I served as a CE investigator from about 1950 until 1952 when I was flown out of Vienna in an L-4 for security reasons and came to the USA. Beginning in 1946 I served as an interpreter for the 796th MP Bn in Bezirk Stations, the Vice Squad, the Radio Patrol, and the Special Investigation Section. Subsequently I served as a translator and interpreter for the Provost Marshal's Criminal Investigation Division. I also served as interpreter for the USFA Chief of Staff G-4 in negotiations with Austrian Government Ministers. Beginning in 1947 I was also a student at the University of Vienna. After arriving in the US in 1952 I worked as an escort translator and interpreter for the Mutual Security Agency until I joined the Army in 1953 and soon was back in Europe as a Signal Corps cinematographer; among my assignments was the flood relief and rescue operation of 1954 memorized in your pages. Many of my fondest memories of work

I am sorry to see this Web Site become so inactived this year. I have always enjoyed reading the comments of my fellow Austrian Veterans. I was with both the 4th Armor Cav and Hq & Service Company 350 Inf Regt, during the 1954 and 1955 period. I just wonder why this great web site is going by the way side. I guess it is like us Austrian Veterans, just fading away.

I would like to communicate with anybody who served in the Ordnance Corps in Salzburg between January 1947 and April 1951. I remember several Officers; Major.Smith; Capt.Curtis; also Sgt.Al Kuzcewski; G.B.Nichols; Guernsey; Pat Dwyer; Crabtree; Cortez and many more. I was a civilian (Austrian Citizen)employed as a Record clerk and in charge of the Unserviceable Department. It would be interesting to find out if anybody from that era is still around. I have a Letter of Employment signed by Major Smith which he gave me when I emigrated to Canada in April 1951. I hope to hear from somebody by e-mail

I am a native of Salzburg Austria and was 11 years old in 1945. I have many memories of the war years and the years after. In 1955 I worked at the American Consulate in Salzburg and met my husband "E.J." on a blind date arranged by a coworker. He was stationed in Salzburg from Nov 1954 to Sep 1955 with the Signal Corp at Camp Roeder and Camp Truscott. We were married in Aug 1955 and he received orders to return to the States in Sept 1955. I was an only child and have been visiting Salzburg regularly until last year when my mother died at age 94. I am presently writing some of my memoirs and it was good to find your site and also another one about Salzburg 1945- 1955. Thank you!

I was with Hdq & Sv Troop, 4th Constabulary Regiment March 24, 1947 thru June 25, 1948. Our initial barracks were in the tobacco factory on the Danube River, quarter of a mile from down Linz and the famous Hitler Bridge he had constructed to fulfill a vow when he was a youth in Branau. We were removed to Horsching Air force Base during the summer of 1947. I attended the EUCOM Intelligence school in Oberammergau in June 1947 and the EUCOM wheeled vehicle mechanics school in Eschwege, Germany in September. Capt William Sikorski was the Regimental Motor Officer, M/Sgt Clinton Cross was the senior non-com. We employed about 25 to 30 Displaced Persons to work in the motor pool. Brig.Gen. Haynes was the senior officer in LUAAC. We had a few "alerts" just to keep us on our toes. Our main function was to protect and process the refugees from the concentration camps who were temporaily housed in wired in camps. Each month we'd roll out and take inventory of each DP Camp so we could validate the monthly food and m
