I was stationed with the 64th MP Company at Stifskaserne, Vienna, from Jan 1955 until May 1955. I was tranferred to Vienna from Livorno, Italy following the pull out of the US from Trieste, Italy, where I was assigned to the 281st MP Company (TRUST). Appreciate hearing from anyone.

I served with the 437th Ordnance Co (Ammo) in Lofer in 1954-55. The 437th also had a detachment headquartered in Bolzano, Italy. Their job was to store ammo in various locations in Northern Italy in the event U.S. forces were forced to be evacuated through the Brenner Pass on their way to Leghorn.

My father (whose name I'm signing to your guestbook) was in the 232nd infantry attached to the 42nd Rainbow Division. I believe he drove trucks in France while there. He passed away back in 1976, however, I would love to talk with anyone who knew him there or could help find a unit book on the 232nd Infantry with his picture in it. I have always been extremely proud of his service there. He was the greatest father a boy could have ever wished for and I will always miss him.

A very fine orgaanization and I am proud to be a charter member. Was on the first reunion to Austria and on several others. The ones I missed were due to physical problems. Served in the 31st Combat Engineer battalion. As I recall, we were among the very first American troops to enter Vienna inl945

I was a member of Hq Co., 1st Bn., 350th Inf Regt, arriving in 1954. We were moved to Caserma Ederle, in 1955, after the treaty. I visited both Salzburg and Vicenza, Italy in Oct 2001. I didn't recognize either one at first, but managed to wander around and find soome familiar landmarks. I entered the Caserma Ederle with my retired ID card, and found they had doubled the size of the post! They also relocated the main gate and I puzzled some young soldiers by asking where the snack bar was. They have Burger King and other fast foods now. Salzburg changed a lot in the last 45 years too. I came out of the Bahnhof and was stunned by all the glass and steel, which I don't seem to remember. This is one of the best websites I have visited, bar none. Congratulations to Bill Billet for organizing the USFA vets. Frank Krus

I was stationed at Camp McCauley in Linz briefly during 1955 and at Camp Truscott in Salzburg. Attended the Signal School in Salzburg and one of the instructors was the fellow who became the head of the Heaven's Gate religious group, Herf Applewhite. When the treaty was signed, I went to Ansbach Germany to complete my tour. Salzburg was the best duty I could have asked for. great city, great people.

I have been trying to find information on my father after WW II, and your web-site has been very helpful. He was Displaced Persons Officer for Hq, 83rd Inf Div, then Hq, 42nd Inf Div Arty, and finally Hq, 4th Constabulary Regt. from 2 Nov 45 - 18 Mar 47. His name was 1Lt. Henry Gettman, and he was pretty easy to spot at 5 ' 0 " tall.

Thanks to Dick Thompson for passing along this website. Enjoyed Baughman's recollections of Camp Darby, Livorno, Italy. I was in the 68th MPCO from 8/53-2/55. It was a great outfit w/ a great bunch of Americans.

I served in the 7360th Base Complement Squadron at Tulln Air Base from 1949-1951. Most of the time I was the Base Courier and had a close rapport with the 796th MP Bn, the 58th Army Postal Unit and Hq VMP. You have a very nice Web Site.

I was the S-4 driver for the 232nd Infantry Regiment of the 42nd Infantry "Rainbow" Division. I was billeted with Regimental HQ at the Hotel Moser in Bad Hofgastein, Austria. When my Jeep driving abilities were no longer required I became a clerk the S-4 office. My major accomplishment in that capacity was setting up the civilian payroll for our sector. I loved the scenery, and walked between Badgastein and Bad Hofgastein every day, accompanied by a huge, liberated concentration camp dog. The dog was intimidating by his size, but very friendly and mild mannered. Needless to say, everyone was very friendly towards me on these walks. After a warm mineral bath, those 10 mile walks seemed like nothing. I left Austria in about February, 1946. That Bad Hofgastein experience, while waiting for the Army of Occupation, was the best duty anyone could ever spend! Regardless, we all wanted to go home.

I served in the 832nd Ord Bn at Camp Roeder from October, 1953 to June, 1955. Actually, it was the 66th Ord Co when I got there and later became the 832nd. I played on the Tactical Command Tigers football team for two seasons; one of my teamates was Meadowlark Lemon who later went on to fame and fortune with the Harlem Globetrotters. He played end with us and was one heck of a football player. Probably could have had a shot at pro football if he wanted it. I'd love to hear from any vets of the 66th/832nd or maybe even the Tigers?
