The decimeter station on Hill 880Feldberg/Taunus (below) was used for telephone communication between certain key USFET points in Germany. The former German Luftwaffe decimeter equipment was captured by the US Army at the end of WWII. After the war, the equipment was used by the Signal Corps and was operated by German technicians. The highly directional antennas on the roof of the tower are beamed at Mannheim, Heidelberg and Nuernberg respectively.
