Top photo is of a rocket launcher being loaded with a live rocket in preparation of convoy to Grafenwoer in 1967. Bottom photo is the same launcher returned from Grafenwoer. To reach its launch point, A Battery was required to drive on public roads surrounding the training area. While moving to the launch point this vehicle accidentally left the road and the gas (not diesel) tanks were ruptured and the resulting fire destroyed the vehicle. Fortunately, the live rocket that was on the launcher didn’t ignite or explode. The German authorities were quick to respond as this happened near a village. Regrettably, the driver and co-driver were badly burned and evacuated to the hospital. As far as I know they both survived.
