36th Field Artillery Group (Source: Walt Leon, HHB 36th FA Gp, 1962-64) 280 mm Cannon - Just prior to my arrival in 1962, the 2nd Gun Bn, 38th Arty inactivated. They were located in Darmstadt and were part of the 36th FA Group. In Dec of 1963 the last unit with this big gun inactivated, the 3rd Gun Bn, 82nd Artillery out of Giessen. Babenhausen acquired many of their guys that were not ready for rotation. I only saw this magificent weapon once, but saw many pictures and acquired a few. I do not remember who took this pic or what unit it was from.
