40th Artillery Group (Redstone) (Photo submitted by Jim Ryan who served in Btry A, 1st Msl Bn, 333rd Arty) Here is a photo from Ron Smith taken in May 1960.  It shows Ron ready to go out on guard duty.  He is standing outside the guard house of Des Gouttes Kaserne, which was located right next to 580th Engineer Company orderly room.  We used the Battery A ¾ -ton truck to shuttle the guards between Des Gouttes and the two posts on Kuhberg Hill.  Note that the truck still has the 217th Field Artillery Missile Battalion designation on the bumper.
