(1) 1 Arty Brigade also had one heavy regiment assigned at this time - 32 Hvy Regt. It was equipped with the M-107 gun.
(2) 27 Regiment RA was the last Corporal unit in Europe; it left Germany in late 1966.
(3) Missile batteries were 6 and 137 Bty.
(4) 47 Regiment RA was withdrawn the last Corporal unit in Europe; it left Germany in late 1965. It is possible one of the batteries had already been disbanded which would explain the count of 3 CORPORAL launchers as reported by the GDR report..
(5) Missile batteries were 3 and 4 Bty.
(6) Howitzer batteries were 2 and 34 Bty.
(7) HJ batteries were 51 and 76 Bty.
(8) Howitzer batteries were 75 and 171 Bty.
(9) HJ batteries were 19 and 36 Bty.
(10) Howitzer batteries were 33 and 78 Bty.
(11) HJ batteries were 15 and 21 Bty.

(Source: NATO nuclear weapons in western Europe,
In the 1950s and 1960s, more than a dozen types of nuclear weapons were introduced into Europe, including surface-to-surface missiles, a score of aircraft types, several calibers of artillery, air defense missiles, and atomic land mines.

There were approximately 3,900 U.S. nuclear weapons -- nearly today's (1990) total -- in Europe in early 1961. By May 1965, there were some 5,950 nuclear weapons. By September 1966, the number reached 7,000, and in 1968 there were 7,161.

The number remained around 7,000 until 1980, when 1,000 warheads were unilaterally withdrawn. During the 1980s several types were retired, including two kinds of atomic land mines, the Nike Hercules air defense missile, and the Honest John surface-to-surface missile.
